How to get Discrete Scrolling to Work in Older Versions of Minecraft

(When it doesn't have the option in settings)

Hi :)

Yeah... sorry if you are waiting on the Balatro project and the secret other project but I've been playing some modded minecraft in the meantime. I have some time off work soon so I'll go absolute ham on that then. But I'm making sure its not all going to waste because I've got some info for getting around the scrolling issue for Minecraft on Mac!

For those that don't use Macs, these machines have a difference in the way they scroll. While each bump (in short, this is the click that occurs when your mouse wheel is spun) on windows means move 1 count up or 1 count down, mac uses a kind of smoothing and/or acceleration effect. This is great if you are browsing the internet or using blender, but really messes up the functionality of games. For us that use the later releases of minecraft, there is an option in the "mouse settings" called "discrete scroll" which all mac users should be turning to "on" the moment they start up the game. Without this feature, moving 1 bump will not go to the next item, and scrolling too fast will mean you skip the item completely, making it hell for most gameplay senarios.

I was playing a modpack for 1.7.10, thats when I found that there was no discrete scrolling option in the control settings. I'd say it took me about an hour and a half to search for a solution, installing apps and messing with mod configs. But I finally found a solution that fixed it, which was probably going to be pretty easy to find if I was using Google and not ChatGPT.

If you are having this issue with old minecraft version or just annoyed with how the scrolling is working with any application on your computer in general, I want to confirm to people on the internet that Discrete Scroll from Emre Yolcu on Github works a treat! How this works is you run this application on your mac at any time and it will change your scroll to work the same way a windows scroll works. If you check the read me on Github, you will also find information on adding this to your log in items and how to stop it from running.

I hope this helps anyone who was having the same problems as I was when I was trying to get this too work. Thought I would upload this in a blog post just to help anyone who was probably struggling to find this application.
